Liver Inflammation

This is an occasional side effect, usually detected with blood tests. Due to overlapping side effects between Accutane® and vitamin A, the FDA warns against taking any supplemental vitamin A, even the low dose in multivitamins, when taking Accutane®. With proper blood work monitoring, the risk to the liver is almost zero.

Make sure your doctor is aware of any prior liver problems such as viral or alcoholic hepatitis or cirrhosis. Give your doctor a list of all medications you are currently taking. Avoid excessive alcohol ingestion during Accutane® treatment; talk to your doctor about safe limits. If you want to continue or take a multivitamin, take ebA* (*everything but “A”®) Multivitamin Supplement®, the only multivitamin that does not contain vitamin A.

FDA precaution: Avoid supplemental vitamin A while taking Accutane. ebA* (*everything but "A") Multivitamin Supplement contains no vitamin A.
