Dry Lips

Most people develop a mild nuisance chapping of the lips. Occasionally the lips become more red, cracked, crusted and sore.

Apply lip balm with sun protection such as ChapStick® Ultra 30 or Blistex® Ultra Protection ten or more times daily; carry it with you. If still dry, try Vaseline® or Aquaphor® Healing Ointment. You also may hold a warm, moist washcloth between your lips for five minutes several times a day followed by applications of the lip balm.

If your lips become red and sore, in addition to lip balm, you may use OTC hydrocortisone ointment 1% such as Cortizone10® ointment 2 to 3 times daily for a few days at a time or may need a low dose prescription corticosteroid ointment from your doctor. It is important not to use the cortisone ointments for more than a few days at a time due to potential side effects of their own.

FDA precaution: Avoid supplemental vitamin A while taking Accutane. ebA* (*everything but "A") Multivitamin Supplement contains no
vitamin A.
